There are preachers you can listen to, preachers you can't listen to, and preachers you must listen to. At our Preaching Pre-Conference, Dr. H.B. Charles, Jr. lays out seven marks of the kind of preaching that demands a hearing, from faithfulness to the text all the way to freedom in the pulpit. He keeps the aim fixed on the glory of the message rather than the greatness of the messenger, and he tells the story of a sermon tape he keeps but will never play. If your preaching has started to feel more like performance than proclamation, this message will remind you that you are not the story.

Whoever preaches the word leads the people, which makes a preaching team a leadership decision long before it is a scheduling one. At our Preaching Pre-Conference, Bryan Laughlin draws on twenty years of growing a church from two preachers to seven and lays out two principles, ten dos, five don'ts, and four benefits for leading a team well. If you are carrying every Sunday alone, or handing sermons out without a plan, this message will show you how to build a team that strengthens the church instead of dividing it.

Illustrations are seasoning, not the main course. At our Preaching Pre-Conference, Dr. Doug Logan Jr. takes up the call of 2 Timothy 2:15 to rightly handle the word and gives seven dynamics for illustrations that serve the text instead of stealing the show. He then adds three warnings for the preacher who has started enjoying the room's response a little too much. If your best stories have quietly become the reason people come, this message will help you put the meat back at the center of the plate.

Preaching is missional by nature, yet the practice has been muddied. At our Preaching Pre-Conference, Donny Cho walks through Acts 16, where Paul reaches a wealthy religious woman, a possessed slave girl, and a hardened Roman jailer in a single chapter. His conclusion is that missional preaching is nothing more or less than faithful preaching of the word. If you have ever softened the gospel to keep people in their seats, this message will remind you that it has lost none of its power.

In Zulu culture there is a saying that the sun rises with news and it sets with news. At our Preaching Pre-Conference, Dr. Raphael Mnkandhla works through Romans 1:1-17 to argue that gospel centered preaching is no trend from the early 2000s, and that the gospel alone both makes and matures disciples. He shows how the same message that humbled the most religious man in the room also reached a city full of idols. If your pulpit has drifted toward relevance or self-help, this message will ask you which sun you have been letting shine.

The greatest need in the church, and therefore in the world, is true preaching. Opening our Preaching Pre-Conference, Matt Cohen makes the case for Christ centered expository sermons as the meat and potatoes every congregation should be fed, then gives eight reasons to commit to that kind of preaching for good. He also defines what expository preaching actually is, drawing on Mark Dever, David Helm, and Tim Keller. If you have ever been tempted to trade the plain work of the pulpit for something that promises better results, this message will settle the question and give you something worth preaching until your lungs give out.

Most of us have felt the stabbing disappointment of watching a friend, a mentor, or a model in the faith fail to make it well to the end. Preaching from Ephesians 6 and Philippians 3 at our Churchman conference, Dr. Mark Becton unpacks what it takes to endure and persevere as faithful men of God, standing firm under the weights God has purposed and pressing on in the strength of Jesus rather than our own. If you measure faithfulness only by how the race ends, this message will teach you to see the win God is working in you one moment and one season at a time.

The gospel that crossed every barrier to reach you is the same gospel that sends you across barriers to reach others. Preaching from Acts 8:26–40 at our Churchman conference, Donny Cho follows Philip and the Ethiopian eunuch to show that intentional discipleship starts upward with the Spirit, moves outward across our boundaries, and reaches inward to the emptiness only the gospel can fill. If some people in your church or city have always felt beyond your reach, this message will show you why no one is.

Leadership matters because our God is a leader, a shepherd who loves to lead his people through people. Preaching from 2 Timothy 2:1–3 at our Churchman conference, Matt Cohen charges every churchman to make leaders in his church by entrusting the faith to faithful men who can teach others also. If developing leaders has always felt like a job for someone more gifted or less busy, this message will show you where the strength comes from, what the work looks like, and why the suffering is worth it.

Every church wants deep community, but the means God gave for building it are the very ones we most neglect. Closing out our Churchman conference, Joe Holland commends the forgotten means of grace of baptism, the Lord’s Supper, and church discipline as God’s own design for life together in the household of faith. If your church has plenty of potlucks and men’s meetings but the means God actually gave feel like empty rituals, this message will teach you to prize them and to see them as gifts made for you as a man.
